Introducing: The Perfect Package

Mike’s Dive Cameras is happy to introduce a new feature called the “Perfect package”. The Perfect Package is an underwater photography equipment package that we think fulfills certain criteria at that specific time it is introduced. The Perfect Package might not include all the latest, just announced, UW photo kit. It definitely won’t include the most expensive “top shelf” stuff for the pros only. The Perfect Package aims to hit the sweet spot of its chosen range, the goldilocks zone of affordability, size, quality and usability. Something that is not too big or not too small, not too fancy but extremely useful and well tested. Something that is just right. We’ll aim to introduce several packages over the coming months with different kind of price ranges… some compact, some mirrorless, some for video and so on. You might not fully agree with our choice of equipment and that is fine. Consider it as a recipe or a formula of the chosen type of underwater photo kit that will put you to the right track from the get go. Then rest is up to you. You just have to position yourself somewhere where things happen under water.

Oh, and before I forget; one important detail. You can buy the Perfect Package as whole and save quite a bit of money compared to purchasing all the parts separately.

The first “Travel Friendly Mirrorless Enthusiast Perfect Package” is the Olympus EM-10MKII in the Nauticam NA-EM10II Housing with Inon strobes and a Weefine spotting light!

The E-M10II is the little brother of the already famous Olympus E-M range of cameras. Where the little brother excels is the price and size. Although you get almost all the same features than with cameras like the E-M5II the E-M10II comes quite a bit cheaper. Especially now it’s price will go down as the new E-M10 MKIII has just been announced. But don’t worry, the new model only really ads UHD video features so unless you specialise on 4K video you might has well get the MKII model. The NA-EMII housings fits the Olympus camera perfectly and we’d recommend getting the case with the additional vacuum leak check system for worry free diving sessions.

For this perfect package, we have chosen two lenses to get started with. For wide-angle we go for the small and handy Panasonic 8mm f3.5 fisheye lens. This tiny lens fits perfectly on to the already small Olympus camera body. The Nauticam 4.33” dome port for this lens is also extremely travel friendly. The second lens is the Olympus Zuiko 60mm f2.8 Macro lens. This 120mm, 35mm equivalent, lens will be able to capture the tiniest critters underwater. The Nauticam macro port 65 for the Olympus 60m can also be used as a bonus with the Olympus Zuiko 12-50mm EZ zoom, that comes as a kit lens with some of the E-M10 camera packages.

For lighting, we have chosen 2 of the super popular Inon S-2000 strobes. These miniscule strobes provide enough light for most underwater close-up and close focus wide-angle situations. They work seamlessly in STTL-mode with the Olympus camera and you can also go full manual if you like. For night diving and for those other difficult to focus situations the final bit that crowns this package is a centrally placed spotting/focus light. The Weefine Smart Focus 800 FR light has both white and red beam and can be used as a constant light source or as auto-flash-off unit, where the light detects the strobes firing and automatically shut down and let the strobes work their magic. The Tiny Weefine spotting light weighs only 150 gr with a battery so it will not bust your weight limits.
